So… the temperature is more conducive to swinging a hockey stick than swinging a golf club. But that doesn’t mean we have to just sit around waiting for the spring thaw and the start of a new golf season.
This is a great time to re-grip your clubs. New grips can be an inexpensive way to add game improvement technology to your equipment. I once told a friend that I didn’t think replacing old grips was that important. To which he replied, “Try playing a round with greasy hands and no grips!” Ever since, I’ve made it a point to replace my old grips once a year. And now is the perfect time. I replace my grips myself. But most courses will be happy to re-grip your clubs for you. Check with the pro shop of one of 2 Iron Golf’s Participating Facilities. In the unlikely event they don’t re-grip clubs, they are sure to be able to guide you to someone who does.
This is also a great time to practice on your short game indoors. Putting and chipping are a big part of the game. You can use this time to elevate that part of your game. I’ve also discovered that this is a good time to work on grooving a swing without worrying about where the ball is going. I like to practice just getting into the right positions at address, and at the top of my backswing, halfway down from the top of the swing, and at impact and then at the follow through. Then run through these positions in slow motion. This is a great muscle memory exercise. Try it! You will be amazed, by how much it can help teach good swing habits. I’ve found the real challenge is not to allow bad habits to creep back into my swing as the season progresses.
